Blogging has transformed into a multi-million dollar industry; therefore, any mistake made during early days may hurt your blog’s health in the coming months. If you are new to this industry and want to become a successful blogger, you need to pay heed to these 5 common blogging mistakes that can ruin your blog.

By the time you finish this guide, you will understand how you can avoid these mistakes and turn your blog into a successful online venture-

Are You A Jack of All Trades, Master of None

I have done MBA in finance from one of the most reputed universities in India, hold more than half a dozen certificates in equity trading and investment banking, and know as much about financial planning as any experienced CFP would know. However, my knowledge of blogging and content writing goes farther than all the skills mentioned above.

Does that make me eligible to write about finance, investments, and blogging on this blog? Think about it for a minute. Would you like to read my posts if I write about finance and blogging/SEO side by side? The answer is straight NO. I may know many things, but that doesn’t give me any right to confuse my readers. Bloggersclan is dedicated to blogging/SEO, and I want to keep it that way.

Common Blogging Mistakes

Jack Of All Trades, Master of None

In short if you are new to blogging, make sure you keep your blog posts as much relevant to your niche as possible. There’s no point in being the Jack of all trades, master of none. If you want to share your knowledge about different niches, then start various blogs, but don’t mix up topics in one blog. It will not only earn you loyal readers but also enhance your blog’s ranking over time.

Plagiarism Is A Sin For Bloggers

It’s one of the most common blogging mistakes that newbie bloggers commit. Trust me, professional blogging is entirely different from what you did in high-school. You might have cut and run there, but Google’s far more intelligent and advanced than any of your high school professors. Google will know as soon as you indulge into plagiarism and penalize you for the same.

Common Blogging Mistakes You Should Avoid

Say No To Plagiarism

To make sure that you don’t copy paste content intentionally or unintentionally, it’s always recommended to write original content based on your experiences and knowledge. Even if you refer other blogs for content ideas, take this count to 5-6 blogs to get ample knowledge about that particular topic. Learn and Write!

Basic SEO Knowledge Is Pre-Requisite

You don’t need to worry about SEO if blogging is just another hobby that keeps you happy. However, if you want to be successful as a blogger, you need to know basics of SEO. Knowledge of keywords, alt text, H1-H2, backlinks, and other SEO techniques in early days can do wonders. Rest you can learn over time. It’s one of the most common blogging mistakes that has killed more online properties over years than you can imagine.

To learn basic SEO tips, you should read blogs that talk about SEO. There are numerous websites, YouTube channels, forums and groups dedicated to SEO. Google them.

Social Media Is A Free Promotion Marketplace, Use It

Many blogs die every year due to not getting enough social media attention. Don’t let your blog’s name include in this list. Social media is free for everyone. Use it to communicate with your readers. It’s one of the common blogging mistakes that impacts in the long run.

  • Thank You for providing this Information for ALL Who may be interested! As A Beginner, You have Provided me with a Skull Full Of Mush, As Rush might say. My presently un-official Blog is; THE RESPONSE An American Opinion Page,on FaceBook, And My Twitter site is @hankpannell on Twitter. I look forward to Any Comments on FaceBook and Following on Twitter!

  • I was wondering how articles, blogs and newsletters really work. People today, seem to be only interested in Quick Videos. I’ve noticed that any form of information, if longer that 10 minutes, will be skipped. What are your opinions on that and how can you prove to me that all the blogging, articles and newsletters are working.

    • Hi,
You have a valid point. All blogs/articles/newsletters don’t work. But as long as you can write something that actually solves a real time problem, readers will come and take a look at it. You may not experience it instantly, but over time you will realize that quality always matters – to you, to me and to the readers fraternity out there.
If any information longer than 10 minutes had gone unnoticed, Hollywood would’ve become bankrupt long ago. But it’s not the case. As long as you can come up with quality content, duration hardly matters. Rest you can experiment and see what works and what not.

  • I read so many fluff articles, it’s great to find one like this that gets to the point and delivers quality, usable advice.

    I’ve just subscribed!

  • Thanks so much Sharma , I have read a couple of you articles and I have been lightened up on this blogging business. I started a blog# successparadigmx.blogspot.com.ng# last year but could not really keep it going. But after reading through your blog I have been fired up again. I hope to get it right this time. Thanks a billion times over

    • Hey Victor,
I am glad you are charged up again. I wish you all the best in your blogging journey. You can always turn back to me to get your doubts resolved. Take care 🙂

  • Hello Great Post Indeed about Mistakes, bloggers make these days.

Personally, when I started my career in blogging, I was not sure, for whom I am writing for and what I need to provide to attract readers.

Also, i was focused on writing for search engines as I wanted my posts to rank, but actually it was a big mistake from my side.

As, I have learned over the past few months, we just need to cover the topic by maintaining quality and rest will be ok itself..

But I sadly believe, many still not aware of this fact, they are still making tons of mistakes in blogging.

So, they need to start reading more to get more knowledge and then proceed in blogging the right way.

    So, brilliantly described points.

    Keep up the good work.

    • Thanks Rubel,
Bloggers should focus on clarifying the doubts that readers may have. If they can do so, they don’t have to worry about ranking at all. It works in the long run for every blogger. I hope you keep your focus intact and continue working hard. Best of Luck 🙂
